About Us

Cameron's Mission Statement

The mission of Cameron School, in partnership with parents and the community, is to provide all students access to a challenging curriculum rich in meaning and rigor that inspires students to become knowledgeable, lifelong learners.  We are dedicated to promoting students who are:  self-starters, responsible citizens, cooperative, and effective communicators.  Together, in partnership, we accept the challenge of preparing our students to reach their greatest potential, committed to intellectual achievement, social emotional growth, and cultural diversity.  Through this holistic approach to education, we aim to develop compassionate, responsible, and global citizens who strive to make a difference in creating a more peaceful world.

Background/History

Cameron Elementary School is located in the heart of West Covina. Situated next to a community park, adjacent to West Covina High School, our school is in the hub of community activities. Opening its doors in 1952, Cameron was originally a K-8 campus. Over the next thirty-six years, Cameron went through many configurations, and in 1988, became a K-5 elementary school in the West Covina Unified School District.

During the 2016-2017 school year, we added Transitional Kindergarten to our campus. An exceptionally professional staff includes highly qualified teachers, paraprofessionals, support providers and a principal. Each staff member strives to continuously improve the quality of the educational experience for all Cameron learners.

At Cameron Elementary School, we believe in a balanced education for all students. Our district K-4 Reading Initiative supports our goal to have all students reading at or above grade level and ensuring their success in the PYP. In addition, we are dedicated to providing  enriched learning opportunities. To facilitate this learning, all students in kindergarten through grade 5 are provided individual iPads for kindergarten and first grade students, and individual chromebooks for 2nd through 5th grade students as a tool for supporting inquiry and developing skills.

 

International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme

As an authorized Primary Years Programme school our goal is to provide a relevant and rigorous education, providing our TK through grade 5 students opportunities to make meaningful local and global connections through our units of inquiry. Our transdisciplinary units of study help students become critical thinkers and world citizens by providing tasks that are designed for engagement and higher levels of thinking. Cameron Elementary School offers two specials courses to all students, World Language-Spanish and Art. These specials courses provide students unique opportunities to further develop perspectives, conceptual understandings, and skills related to their units of inquiry.

To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.

These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
