If you require assistance in accessing this platform or have any questions regarding its use, please do not hesitate to reach out to the office for support. We are here to help you stay connected.
Attendance
The West Covina Unified School District emphasizes the importance of regular attendance for students and encourages parents to schedule medical and other appointments outside of school hours whenever possible. Additionally, the district kindly requests that travel or other absences be minimized during school hours.
Upon returning to school following an absence, students are required to provide a written excuse from home. Excused absences include illness, doctor's appointments, and dental appointments. Parents also have the option to report absences by contacting the school office via phone. Your cooperation in maintaining consistent attendance is greatly appreciated. (Refer to the Parent & Student Handbook for more information.)
Tardiness
Children are encouraged to arrive on time as part of fostering good habits. It is expected that all students arrive at school by 8:00 am as this is when the instruction bell rings. If a child arrives after the instructional bell rings, they will be considered tardy. Your cooperation in ensuring timely attendance is greatly appreciated.
Truant
A student is classified as truant if they are tardy or absent for more than 30 minutes during the school day without a valid excuse on three occasions in one school year.
Teacher Communication
Parents can call the office to leave a message for teachers or can leave a message on Parent Square. Calls cannot be transferred to the classrooms during instructional time.
Classroom Instruction
Ensuring maximum classroom instruction time is our priority. Students are expected to arrive prepared with all necessary items for class. However, we understand that there may be occasions when a parent needs to drop off an item for their child during the school day. In such instances, please leave the item in the office labeled with the child's name, and then notify the teacher via Parent Square. The child will be directed to retrieve the item from the office during their recess or lunch break..
Volunteers
Volunteers are an integral part of our school community. If you enjoy helping children and want to be part of our team, please contact your child’s teacher or call the office to pick up a volunteer application.
Cell Phones
Students are not permitted to use cell phones during the instructional day, while on campus. If you choose to send your child to school with a cell phone, parents must complete a Cell Phone Use Agreement. Forms are located in the office. Cell phones should be turned off and put away in a safe place. If there is an emergency, the office will notify the parents.
School Dress Policy
Cameron School has adopted a school dress policy. A copy of the School Dress Policy is available on our website, in the office, and will be sent home on the first day of school.
Please refer to the Parent & Student Handbook available online for further information.
Background/History
Cameron Elementary School is located in the heart of West Covina. Situated next to a community park, adjacent to West Covina High School, our school is in the hub of community activities. Opening its doors in 1952, Cameron was originally a K-8 campus. Over the next thirty-six years, Cameron went through many configurations, and in 1988, became a K-5 elementary school in the West Covina Unified School District.
During the 2016-2017 school year, we added Transitional Kindergarten to our campus. An exceptionally professional staff includes highly qualified teachers, paraprofessionals, support providers and a principal. Each staff member strives to continuously improve the quality of the educational experience for all Cameron learners.
At Cameron Elementary School, we believe in a balanced education for all students. We are dedicated to providing enriched learning opportunities. To facilitate this learning, all students in kindergarten through grade 5 are provided individual iPads for kindergarten and first grade students, and individual chromebooks for 2nd through 5th grade students as a tool for supporting inquiry and developing skills.
